Technical sophistication rules in this piece created by Caravane for Boris Hard Iced Tea. The duo designed a catapult for launching cans onto china dishware. The prep work they did prior to the shoot allowed them to master the technique of propelling the material in such a way as to strike the perfect balance between creation and destruction. Pushing the limits of what is possible and capturing it on camera is Caravane’s signature form of expression.
We were super excited about the idea of smashing dishes in a way that was both aesthetically pleasing and hypnotizing.
From the very beginning, the intention was to be disruptive and go all out with the concept of destruction, but without taking ourselves too seriously. It was really this explosive cocktail what made us want to jump into the project!
Even though we were really well prepared, there was still an element of the unknown and unpredictable in the act of launching; we got a totally different reaction every time. For example, there was the infamous soup tureen that kept refusing to break, even with the catapult set at maximum power. Luckily, it finally exploded perfectly on the third try. It couldn’t have worked better!
